Number Ones

by: ABBA

Editorial Product Review:Album Description:Abba are following in the footsteps of The Beatles, Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson with the Number Ones concept, and we're assuming that the designation applies to charts from around the world. There are 18 songs on the album, but no Abba song ever hit #1 in Canada, 'Dancing Queen' was the only one to do it in the U.S., and seven singles did it in the U.K. So the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest winners must have ...

The Very Best of Prince

(more) »rank: 359

by: Prince

Editorial Product Review: :Taken literally, this album's title is sure to cause endless arguments. Nothing from Dirty Mind, not a trace of the early anthem 'Controversy,' no 'Erotic City'--no non-LP cuts at all, save some edited single versions--and a cold shoulder to the criminally out-of-print Gold Experience. Damn. As a compendium of 17 key A-sides from 1979 to 1992, however, The Very Best of Prince is (ahem) a quick-'n'-dirty review of the days when the Artist was, in the estimation of ...

Editorial Product Review:Album Description:Double CD set from Tiesto in 2008 with his album, In Search of Sunrise 7. On this outing Tiesto takes us to the Far East. ISOS 7 was completely mixed and recorded in Thailand. The first disc expresses the beauty of Asia, whereas the second one offers an energetic view on how trance goes down when it is played with an Asian flair. The track list reveals the genuine style of Tiësto put together in the In ...

The Immaculate Collection

by: Madonna

Editorial Product Review: essential recording:The naughtily titled Immaculate Collection culls 15 of Madonna's Top 10 singles from 1984 to mid-'90, plus 2 new ones that continued the run (the dirty, trunk-bumping funk of 'Justify My Love'--a Lenny Kravitz production that justifies his entire career--and the danceable desperation of 'Rescue Me'). Rooted in disco and classic AM pop from girl groups and ABBA to Strawberry Alarm Clock, Madonna made savvy, touching music throughout her first golden era. These tracks retain their ...

Mariah Carey - Greatest Hits

(more) »rank: 273

by: Mariah Carey

Editorial Product Review: :This has the best collection of songs :These days she's fodder for tabloid writers and late-night comics, but way back in the '90s Mariah Carey ruled the charts. This two-disc collection offers up evidence why, for better or worse, Mariah's five-octave, pop/R&B stylings set the diva standard. Greatest Hits culls its offerings from Carey's five albums on Sony (she is now signed to Virgin), and you get all the facets of her platinum-plus sound. From the soulful ...

I'm Not Dead

(more) »rank: 351

by: Pink

Editorial Product Review: :\N :Some music is celebrated for its elegant subtlety; Pink's slams you over the head. Four albums in, she's not changing her formula. I'm Not Dead touches on bulimia ('Stupid Girls'), war-mongering politicians ('Dear Mr. President'), teen angst ('Conversations With My 13 Year Old Self,' 'Runaway'), overheated pickup artists ('U + Ur Hand'), and gross materialism ('I Got Money Now'). None of it, in other words, is for featherweight listeners. Then again, none of it suits eggheaded ...

Number Ones

by: Michael Jackson

Editorial Product Review: :Like the Beatles and Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson is one of the handful of artists that can release an album of their number one singles. Number Ones includes his solo chart toppers in the UK and abroad from the period beginning with his Off the Wall album right up to the new song 'One More Chance', a collaboration with R Kelly. The remaining 17 songs on the album are all classics drawn from the disco-soul Off the Wall, ...

Digital Camera Reviews

Sales of semiconductors in November indicate that consumer products such as LCD (liquid crystal display) TVs, digital music players, and other devices sold well during the holidays, the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) said Monday.

November chip sales rose 2.3 percent year-on-year to $23.1 billion, the SIA said.

Unit demand has far outpaced last year. But falling chip prices have hurt industry revenue, the chip association said. For example, DRAM (dynamic RAM) bit shipments grew 25 percent in the three months through mid-December, but average selling prices have declined 20 percent over the same period.

The association also noted that rising energy prices and concerns about the sub-prime lending issue in the U.S. do not appear to have had a significant impact on consumer spending for the holidays, the SIA said. The group reiterated its forecast that worldwide semiconductor sales will reach a new record in 2007. But it will take a stronger than expected December selling season to reach the 3.8 percent growth goal the group had forecast earlier this year, the SIA said.

Investment banking firm Credit Suisse was not as optimistic as the SIA.

The November data was below normal seasonal trends, noted analyst John Pitzer, in a report on Monday. Even if December reaches its normal seasonal growth, 2007 industry revenue will only reach $255.7 billion, up 3.2 percent over last year. The growth percentage would fall short of the SIA's 3.8 percent target.

The slow November prompted Credit Suisse to lower its 2008 chip industry revenue forecast to 9.4 percent year-on-year growth, down from a previous target of 13 percent.
