The Very Best of Dusty Springfield

(more) »rank: 1069

by: Dusty Springfield

Editorial Product Review: essential recording:Dusty Springfield's voice is one of the great pop instruments. Showcased here on 20 tracks from her '60s and early-'70s heyday, her sensuality and strength wrap themselves around everything from big-beat rock and roll like 'I Only Want to Be With You' and 'Stay Awhile' to seductive masterworks like 'Son of a Preacher Man' and 'The Look of Love.' Very Best ends with a vulnerable reading of the Carole King/Gerry Goffin taking-stock anthem 'Goin' Back'--a rarity ...

Kid Rock

by: Kid Rock

Editorial Product Review: :Is Kid Rock about to drop the first half of his stage moniker? Some alarmingly mature cuts on his sixth album, addressing the woes of single parenthood ('Single Dad') and painful separations ('Cold and Empty,' a cover of Bob Seger's 'Hard Night For Sarah'), might suggest so. But that's only part of the story. As Rock reiterates on 'Son of Detroit,' a butt-kicking revamp of David Allan Coe's 'Son of the South,' 'I like country, soul, rock and ...

The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan

(more) »rank: 1955

by: Bob Dylan

Editorial Product Review: :Dylan's outstanding second album is a tremendous jump from its predecessor. Whereas the debut established him as a peerless interpreter of folk and country-blues classics, and a singer like none before, this followup features some of the most pungent original songs of the '60s. 'Blowin' in the Wind,' 'Masters of War,' 'A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall,' 'Don't Think Twice, It's All Right,' 'I Shall Be Free': if this sounds like the lineup for a greatest-hits collection, you've got ...

Warner. 2005. essential recording:Buoyed by the runaway commercial success of Led Zeppelin IV, Jimmy Page used this 1973 follow-up to hone his already impressive production skills, and the result was a collection sporting an impressively expansive sound. Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers - Greatest Hits

(more) »rank: 1710

by: Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers

Editorial Product Review: :\N :He's sold millions of albums, filled arenas, and hobnobbed with George Harrison, Bob Dylan and Roy Orbison, but Tom Petty's driving heartland rock has often been taken for granted by the same critics who hail John Mellencamp as a genius. Greatest Hits is an airtight argument for Petty's own greatness. Starting with 'American Girl,' the rollicking, Byrds-inspired single from Petty's first album in 1976, this compilation presents a chronological overview of the guitarist-vocalist's career with and ...

Editorial Product Review:Album Description:In April 2007, Dave Mathews and Tim Reynolds embarked on a 3 city theatre tour, culminating with a performance in the intimate confines of Radio City Music Hall in New York City. Due to the small sized venues and extremely limited number of dates, tickets were practically impossible to get, making these new 2 CD and 2 DVD sets all the more desirable to the huge Dave Matthews band fanbase. :Socialites in the Hamptons paid up to ...

Blues

by: Jimi Hendrix

Editorial Product Review: :\N :After the disorganized and often unlistenable Alan Douglas-produced reissues in the '70s and '80s, MCA has been releasing the vast Hendrix archives in an intelligent and methodical manner. Blues is a perfect example, making the case that--on top of everything else--Jimi Hendrix was one fine blues guitarist. Combining the fluid lines of B.B. King with the spikiness of Hubert Sumlin and the crying tone of Elmore James with his usual synapse-frying intensity, Hendrix manages to both ...

Features most recently mastered audio including bonus tracks where applicable. essential recordings:Popularly known as the 'Brown Album,' this is the collection people first think of when this august outfit's name is mentioned. Sales of semiconductors in November indicate that consumer products such as LCD (liquid crystal display) TVs, digital music players, and other devices sold well during the holidays, the Semiconductor Industry Association (SIA) said Monday.

November chip sales rose 2.3 percent year-on-year to $23.1 billion, the SIA said.

Unit demand has far outpaced last year. But falling chip prices have hurt industry revenue, the chip association said. For example, DRAM (dynamic RAM) bit shipments grew 25 percent in the three months through mid-December, but average selling prices have declined 20 percent over the same period.

The association also noted that rising energy prices and concerns about the sub-prime lending issue in the U.S. do not appear to have had a significant impact on consumer spending for the holidays, the SIA said. The group reiterated its forecast that worldwide semiconductor sales will reach a new record in 2007. But it will take a stronger than expected December selling season to reach the 3.8 percent growth goal the group had forecast earlier this year, the SIA said.

Investment banking firm Credit Suisse was not as optimistic as the SIA.

The November data was below normal seasonal trends, noted analyst John Pitzer, in a report on Monday. Even if December reaches its normal seasonal growth, 2007 industry revenue will only reach $255.7 billion, up 3.2 percent over last year. The growth percentage would fall short of the SIA's 3.8 percent target.

The slow November prompted Credit Suisse to lower its 2008 chip industry revenue forecast to 9.4 percent year-on-year growth, down from a previous target of 13 percent.
